Ekka Dokka , which means hop scotch in Bangla, started in 2022 to address the learning gaps of very small kids ( 2- 6 years), affected by the Covid. Missing out on holistic education in these foundational years could lead to large learning gaps and a lifelong disadvantaged relationship with education.
The 8 learning centres in Hoogly, Bankura and Purulia, run by the local youth, trained by the best of trainers, have successfully supported local kids over the last few years. The principles of learning are focussed on that of Tagore and Gandhi, where joyful learning in the lap of nature meets hands on skill-based learning.

The low cost model ensures that the teaching learning materials are acquired from the rich natural resources around them. It is often commented by visitors that what the ekka dokka kids get in terms of education, is more than any fine English medium schools in the cities.

Ekka dokka also runs remedial centres for older children, who cannot match up to their expected level. They learn reading, writing and numeracy, so that they can cope better in their schools. Ekka dokka also runs centres for the ever migrating brick kiln children, who have absolutely no access to education. These children are mostly child labours and it takes enormous efforts to get them for couple of hours in the centres.

What is unique about ekka dokka is that it is funded by a few friends of ekka dokka, who provide in their individual capacity. We welcome small funds which can help run the centres.
